Thank You Note Examples

The primary function of the post interview thank you note is to keep you top-of-mind with the interviewer.



Thank you notes give you an opportunity to express your interest in the position. A note sets you apart from the competition and could be all it takes to tip the scales in your favor.

When deciding between a hand written note or a more formal printed letter consider the potential work environment as well as the individual to whom it will be sent.

A hand written note is definitely an appropriate way to follow up with interviewers who are not the hiring authority. People such as recruiters or possible new colleagues will appreciate being remembered. And these folks have the potential to influence the hiring decision.

For more casual companies or environments the hand written note can also be appropriate for the hiring manager or manager's boss. A more formal thank you for the interview letter is also appropriate for these individuals, even in casual environments.

A separate note should be written to each person with whom you interview. The notes should be written on good quality business-like card stock in your best penmanship.

If you need any additional information, please feel free to call me at (555) 555-5555. In the meantime, I'll look forward to hearing from (appropriate person) regarding the status of my candidacy.

Notice these post interview thank you note examples all open with a similar message. They convey basically the same information without being exact duplicates. This creates a more favorable impression if the recipients compare notes.

Notice too that the second part of each note has a message specific to the reader. They are all written to show how you would meet each person's needs.

These examples can be used 'as is' or used as a jumping off point for composing your own post interview thank you note. Just keep your objective (to get to the next step) in mind.
